Devised as a supplementary project to ‘Getting a Sense of the City’, this touchstone was an investigation of adaptive acoustic environments.
The project focused around methods of mediating sensory stimuli for user comfort, creating a wall system that adapted with ease.
Prototyping
Having developed a structural resolution, the focus shifted to artefact ergonomics
Construction on a full-scale artefact then began, using the same construction method, and including a sheathing board for structural rigidity. On each leaf of the cassette system an acoustic material was used, some absorbing, others reflecting, and others resonating. The system showed some promise as a near-field acoustic adaptive surface.
